About
Us
Using
the very best traditional methods, Horton Barns will design, or work from your
design and construct your Barn, Garage or Outbuilding to the highest quality
using our fully qualified City & Guilds craftsmen. Each barn is individually
constructed on site to suit your specific requirements, this enables us to build
a superior product ensuring your complete satisfaction, along with low overheads.
From the initial design and planning, Horton Barns can organise the groundworks
through to completion, eliminating the worry and involvement of sub-contractors.
Alternatively, should you require your own builders to construct the base we
will be pleased to liaise with them. All our barns are architecturally and structurally
designed to compy with current building regulations.

Mainframe
construction is of English Oak which has been treated with 2 coats of boiled
linseed oil. The benefits it using oak are undoubtedly that it is the finest
timber for building, and once jointed and pegged together, the timber continued
to contract, tightening the joints all the time. The roof can be constructed
with sawn softwood or for an additional premium can of be oak. The pitch is
approximately 40 degrees, clay tiles are used and samples can be provided. Cost
guidelines for a 2 bay barn, from £5,900 plus VAT. Garage doors if required
will be £490. The base can be priced after a site inspection
External
elevations are of softwood weatherboard, 150mm wide, 20mm tapering to 9mm at
the thinnest. Groundwork foundations are dug to a depth to suit local authorities
and soil conditions, a sub base is put down and compressed, on top of this a
damp proof membrane, then 150mm of concrete and finally brick courses to suit.
In
most cases planning permission is not required, however should you require planning
approval, we can provide you with a drawing to submit to the local authorities.
For this we charge £100, plus any planning and building regulations costs.
We give a ten year guaranteed, once all works completed,
against faulty workmanship or materials. Terms of business are written acceptance
of quotation together with 20% of total cost. 60% payable on site commcement
of works. Final amount on completion of works.
